The Application Process
Appointment to F2 Programmes
Most trainees are allocated to a two-year programme, either with both years within the same Trust, or each year in a different Trust.

Linked Applications
Every foundation school honours linked applications so that linked applicants are allocated to the same foundation school. Others will honour them further, ensuring applicants are allocated programmes within a certain distance of each other. At Wessex linked applications are not honoured for trust or programme allocation.

Rotation lengths vary according to programme and can be:

- 3 x 4 months
- 1 x 6 months with 2 x 3 months

Training Options
Providing eligibility criteria are met, Less Than Full Time (LTFT) training may be undertaken through slot-sharing, reduced hours in a full-time post, or in a supernumerary post. More information can be found here.
Overseas training is possible in F2, but can only be undertaken in New Zealand, South Africa or the USA. 8 trainees may be granted permission to train abroad for F2. If more than 8 trainees apply, the decision is based upon a personal statement submitted by each trainee and a reference from their current Foundation Programme Director.
