The Application Process
Appointment to F2 Programmes
Previously successful applicants were appointed to a two-year programme where there was no second allocation. From 2015, successful applicants will be appointed to an F1 programme with a provisionally linked F2 Trust. Allocation to F2 programme will run during the F1 year. In general, trainees spend one year at an inner city Trust and one year out in a district general hospital.

Linked Applications
Every foundation school honours linked applications so that linked applicants are allocated to the same foundation school. Sometimes schools will honour them further, ensuring applicants are allocated programmes within a certain distance of each other. North West Thames Foundation School does not honour linked applications at a programme level.
You can read more here from our Clinical Lead about this Deanery - alongside reviews on hospitals.

The Programme
Training Options
Providing eligibility criteria are met, and an application is received prior to the post commencing, Less Than Full Time (LTFT) training may be undertaken through slot-sharing, reduced hours in a full-time post, or in a supernumerary post. You can find more information about the policy at NWTFS here.
There are overseas training opportunities; NWTFS has a 2-way exchange with Wellington Hospital in New Zealand whereby 3 NWTFS F2s work in Wellington for 12 months and 3 Wellington F2s work in London for 12 months. Applications are made in January of the F1 year; selection is based on F1 performance to date and a comparative audit project proposal. There are no opportunities to train abroad in other countries other than New Zealand.
